If you’re staring out at a yard full of snow, take heart: spring training officially began yesterday, as Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers reported to camp yesterday.
Yes, we’re dealing with snow and below-average temperatures here at Ballpark Digest headquarters, with no end in sight. (Well, technically, that’s not true: We’ll be in Phoenix at the start of spring training and Florida later in March.) And for the truly hardcore, the college baseball season starts on February 14. But it will be nice to see video today from the first workout at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.
Why such an early report date? We have lots of details at Spring Training Online, but the skinny is that the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers are playing a March 22-23 season-opening series in Sydney, Australia. The two teams will return to Arizona and finish spring training. Dodgers pitchers and catchers, by the way, report tomorrow
So when that harsh winter air slaps your face this morning, smile: spring is just around the corner.
