The University of Central Florida is planning another expansion to Jay Bergman Field, this time adding a club-level seating area and new media center.
The total cost of the project: $2.5 million. It will begin July, when the current NCAA season is over, if an existing line of credit can be refinanced.
Jay Bergman Field holds 3,600 fans and is one of the better college ballparks in Florida. The project will add a new broadcast/media facility, premium club seating deck, enhanced entry, replacement of chairbacks on 100 level, and ballpark audio upgrades. The addition of 300 seats will leave the ballpark short of 4,000 capacity, many in bleacher areas. A planned 2014 project — still unfunded and unapproved — will install a new playing field, replace bleachers with chairbacks, and upgrade the clubhouse and team lounge.
