In memoriam: Joe Cullinane

Rochester Red WingsRochester Red Wings (Class AAA; International League) Hall of Fame broadcaster Joe Cullinane passed away Friday at the age of 89. He broadcast Red Wings games for 13 seasons from 1962-74 and was enshrined to the Red Wings Hall of Fame in 1995 along with Earl Weaver and Pat Santillo.

“Joe was a wonderful broadcaster, a really great talent,” said Red Wings President/CEO Naomi Silver. “He embraced Rochester and the Red Wings as his own during his time here, and this community embraced him right back. In his early days of broadcasting, he ‘re-created’ the game alongside a young Don Alhart before live broadcasts were possible. Joe will always have a special place in the hearts of the Red Wings family.”
