Pheasants unveil 20th-anniversary logo

Sioux Falls 20th anniversary logoThe Sioux Falls Pheasants (independent; American Association) unveiled a 20th anniversary logo to mark the team’s history in independent baseball.

“It’s exciting and surreal to think that this modern era of professional baseball in the Sioux Empire celebrates twenty years this season,” said Pheasants CEO Gary Weckwerth. “For those that have followed the team during the last twenty years, there have been a lot of great moments to celebrate, from the rebirth of professional baseball to the area in 1993 to the great players that have played here, the championship seasons and of course the fans that have supported it throughout the years.”

There are several teams in the American Association marking 20-year anniversaries: besides the Pheasants (which began life as the Sioux Falls Canaries), the Sioux Falls Explorers and St. Paul Saints are celebrating that first year in the original independent Northern League. Teams from that circuit who are long gone include the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks, the Duluth-Superior Dukes and the Rochester Aces.
