Pioneer League back to Casper?

Pioneer LeagueRepresentatives from an unnamed rookie Pioneer League team are visiting Mike Lansing Field, former home of the Casper Ghosts, to discuss a possible move for 2013.

The Ghosts moved to Grand Junction, Col. this offseason after the team was purchased last year by the Monfort brothers, the owners of the Colorado Rockies. The visit is scheduled for May.

The Ghosts finished next to last in Pioneer League attendance last season, ahead of the Helena Brewers, who drew just 986 fans a game to Kindrick Field.

In any case, there will be baseball at Mike Lansing Field this summer. The city is looking at spending $20,000 on equipment for a summer-collegiate Mountain Collegiate Baseball League team funded from the $200,000 exit fee paid by the Ghosts ownership to break the team’s lease. If a Pioneer League team does move to the ballpark, the equipment would be sold; if not, ownership of the MCBL team would repay the city.
