New for 2012: Grand Junction Rockies

Pioneer LeagueThe Casper Ghosts (rookie; Pioneer League) are no more; instead, the team will be the Grand Junction Rockies and play at Suplizio Field beginning in 2012.

Tim Ray, who oversaw the team on behalf of the Monfort brothers, the owners of the Colorado Rockies and who bought the team at the beginning of this year, will oversee the team in Grand Junction.

The team signed a 15-year lease to play at Suplizio Field, where an $8.3-million renovation is on track to be done before the 2012 season; bringing the facility up to pro standards will cost another $800,000, with the Monforts contributing $100,000. The Rockies will have a ready-made, albeit large (12,000-seat) shine new home, to be shared with the Junior College World Series.
