RailCats set attendance record — twice

Gary SouthShore RailCatsIt was a good weekend for the Gary SouthShore RailCats (independent; American Association): not only did the team set a U.S. Steel Yard attendance record on Saturday, they promptly broke it on Sunday.

The records were broken with the assistance of two union groups. Today the RailCats drew 8,208, thanks to UAW Local 551 and the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant. That broke the record of 7,732 fans, which lasted all of one day, when UAW Local 588 and the Ford Chicago Stamping Plant visited Northwest Indiana for Saturday’s contest. The 21,956 fans in attendance at U. S. Steel Yard over the weekend demolished the old record of 16,496 set the weekend of August 22-24 back in 2008.
