A piece of decorative soffit on Busch Stadium fell down this morning, causing St. Louis Cardinals officials to close down some sidewalks around the ballpark.
The immediate impact will be slight: the Cards are in Milwaukee and will on the road until August 9.
The metal fell off the west side of the ballpark and was discovered by a landscaper, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It’s considered a little unusual for soffit to be falling off such a young building — the ballpark is only five years old — so inspectors will be up on the side of the building to determine what happened. Two culprits are suspected: vibrations from a recent U2 concert may have caused the metal to come loose, or warm temps could have caused the metal to buckle and detach from the building.
