Busch Stadium is falling down

St. Louis CardinalsA piece of decorative soffit on Busch Stadium fell down this morning, causing St. Louis Cardinals officials to close down some sidewalks around the ballpark.

The immediate impact will be slight: the Cards are in Milwaukee and will on the road until August 9.

The metal fell off the west side of the ballpark and was discovered by a landscaper, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It’s considered a little unusual for soffit to be falling off such a young building — the ballpark is only five years old — so inspectors will be up on the side of the building to determine what happened. Two culprits are suspected: vibrations from a recent U2 concert may have caused the metal to come loose, or warm temps could have caused the metal to buckle and detach from the building.
