Sims Legion Park in midst of facelift

Sims Legion Field

Renovations are currently underway at Sims Legion Park, home of the Gastonia Grizzlies (summer collegiate; Coastal Plain League), with a new concourse, complete with new ticket booth and two new entrances, under construction for the 2011 season.

In addition, all three grandstands and the box seats have been painted, and fans are installed in the main grandstand. The Grizzlies have started renovations of their own by building an entire new beer garden and expanding it by more than 30 feet. The Miller Lite Beer Garden will be the first reconstruction of the beer deck since its opening in 2005.

The renovations are funded by both the City of Gastonia and the Grizzlies.

“This is the biggest renovation to Sims Park in the last 30 years,” said Managing Partner Jesse Cole. “We appreciate all the help from the City with teaming up with us on this project. This concourse will give us the opportunity to host thousands of fans comfortably on any given night. We are also very excited about the fans in the grandstand and the new opportunity to host large groups in the new group area and new beer garden.”

The new look will continue with the new “Gaston Rentals Group Area” in right field where the Grizzlies can now host large groups in the covered area. The “McDonald’s Kids Zone” has also moved behind the first-base bleachers as well.
