Caray to Southern Maryland, Melendez to Yuma

Southern Maryland Blue CrabsTwo personnel moves involving United League Baseball refugees: Josh Caray is the new Voice of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (independent; Atlantic League), while Jose Melendez is the new general manager of the Yuma Scorpions (independent; North American League).

Caray broadcast San Angelo Colts games last season and also served as the team’s media relations director and marketing director. The name should be familiar to baseball fans; yes, he’s one of the broadcasting Carays, a family that included his grandfather (Harry), father (Skip) and brother (Chip), broadcasters all. In the past Caray also broadcast Gwinnett Braves (Class AAA; International League) and Rome Braves (Low Class A; Sally League) games.

Caray will call all 126 games on BroadcastMonsters.com with live video webcasts set on ibnsports.com.

Melendez comes to the Scorpions after having served the last six seasons as president and general manager of the Laredo Broncos. During that time he was named Executive of the Year by the League three times.

“We feel very fortunate to be able to hire a general manager as accomplished as Jose Melendez,” said Scorpions owner and Diamond Sports & Entertainment President Brian MacInnes. “Jose’s results in Laredo have been amazing and are a testament to his abilities. We are looking forward to his leadership to revitalize the Scorpions on the field and at the gate.”
