Curve announces front-office changes

Altoona CurveThe Altoona Curve (Class AA; Eastern League) announced a host of front-office changes for the 2011 season, including the hiring of two new assistant general managers.

Matt Hoover and Duane Miller are the new Assistant General Managers for the Altoona Curve. Hoover, a native of Hollidaysburg, has been promoted to Assistant General Manager/Marketing and Promotions. A member of the Curve staff since his marketing internship in 2005, Hoover has held the Director of Promotions position since 2006. This past season, Hoover also led the Curve ticket staff that produced an increase in total attendance. In his new position, the graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania will be in charge of all of the marketing and promotional efforts of the club while still working with season ticket holders and sponsors with whom he’s forged a relationship.

“Hoov has been a key member of our staff and was already fulfilling many of the duties related to his new title,” said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. “We’re fortunate to have someone of his passion, capabilities, and local roots leading key departments for us.”

Miller, a longtime minor league baseball executive and product of St. Joseph, Missouri, has been named Assistant General Manager/Sales. Miller has previously served as the Director of Group Sales for the Albuquerque Dukes (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) and Director of Premium Sales for the Springfield Cardinals (Class AA; Texas League). In his new position with the Curve, he will be in charge of the Ticket Department, including season ticket, group, and individual ticket sales. Miller will also assist in suite and sponsorship sales.

“Duane has a great ability to connect with people in a short amount of time,” said Egan. “Even though he’ll be new to the area, it won’t take him long to forge relationships with our staff, fans, and business leaders.”

In addition to the naming of Assistant General Managers, the Curve announced the promotions of three staff members and the full-time hiring of two others. Mike Pence, a ticket associate for the Curve since 2008, has been elevated to Senior Ticket Associate. Mike Passanisi, formerly an assistant in his department, is now the Director of Communications. Glenn McComas, the Assistant Concessions Manager for the past two seasons, has been promoted to Manager of Concessions.

Joining the Curve as members of the full-time staff are local natives Michelle Anna and Doug Mattern. Anna, a Hastings resident who spent the past three seasons as a game-day concessions employee, has been named Assistant Concessions Manager. Mattern, who hails from Hollidaysburg, joined the Curve during the middle of the 2010 season. He has been hired full-time as Assistant Operations Manager.
