A lack of funding is forcing owner Jeff Royle to put a new Green Bay Bullfrogs (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) ballpark on ice.
Royle has proposed a new downtown ballpark on the Fox River that could serve as a community resource, hosting other events. He’s asking the city for land but has been working on private financing for the $15 million facility.
Those plans are on hold, even though City Council members want to see the Joannes Stadium replacement.
Perhaps the biggest reason why financing is hard to acquire: the Green Bay Packers have talked about building a similar multiuse facility adjacent to Lambeau Field. While the Packers probably aren’t looking at baseball, Green Bay probably isn’t big enough to support two multiuse facilities, even if the Bullfrogs play in one of them.
