We're received two reports that the Schaumburg Flyers (independent; Northern League), on the block for several months, have been sold to a local ownership group, with the purchase already approved by Northern League owners.
Not a surprise: the team has been on the block for several months more than a year, as lead owner Rich Ehrenreich had been focusing his efforts on launching another Northern League franchise. A closing is planned before the start of the season.
Observers put the purchase price at between $2 million and $3 million, including debt assumptions. The move will free Ehrenreich and crew to focus on the opening of a new ballpark in Zion, Ill. for the Lake County Fielders (independent; Northern League); that ballpark is slated to open this summer.
