The Bowling Green Hot Rods (Low Class A; Midwest League) tied a promotion for season tickets on the winner of the Kentucky Derby — and damned if the horse, Super Saver, didn't win.
The promotion was straightforward: if Super Saver won the Kentucky Derby, Hot Rods fans would be offered a special super-saver offer: buy one season ticket, get one free.
And guess who won? Super Saver, with Calvin Borel riding. Super Saver wasn't the absolute favorite (which doesn't say much about the gambling public; Borel has ridden three of the last four Kentucky Derby winners), but close enough where this was a promotion that carried a potentially real price for the Hot Rods.
So, beginning today, fans can receive a free Summer Season Ticket package when they purchase a Summer Season Ticket package.
“The most exciting two minutes in sports certainly lived up to its reputation,” said Brad Taylor, Hot Rods General Manager and CEO. “We are thrilled that Super Saver’s victory at Churchill Downs means that Hot Rods fans can enjoy fun and excitement all summer long at an amazing value.”
Picking the promotion and the winning horse was the handiwork of Greg Coleman, the Hot Rods’ Assistant General Manager of Marketing.
