The Tampa Bay Rays and Mosaic Company are pulling the plug on a controversial naming-rights deal for the team's Charlotte County spring-training facility.
The deal called for Charlotte Sports Park to be renamed Mosaic Field at Charlotte Sports Park. When the naming-rights deal was announced last week, here's what we wrote:
The approval by Charlotte County will be contentious; Mosaic and Charlotte County have been at odds for years over environmental controls on the firm's mining operations.
Apparently the heat was a little more than the Rays were willing to face; hence the decision to drop the deal for now.
