NYCBL swoops into Oneonta, Cooperstown

There will indeed be baseball this summer at Damaschke Field, as the summer-collegiate New York Collegiate Baseball League sets up shop; the NYCBL also will play at Cooperstown's Doubleday Field.

Baseball fans in upstate New York will have an abundance of riches this summer, as there will indeed be baseball this summer at Damaschke Field, as the summer-collegiate New York Collegiate Baseball League sets up shop there — and, as a bonus, the league will field a team in Cooperstown as well.

The Saratoga Phillies are moving to Damaschke Field, the former home of the Oneonta Tigers (short season; NY-Penn League), who shifted operations to Norwich for the 2010 season. The new team's name will be announced today.

The new Oneonta team will be joined in the league by the Cooperstown Hawkeyes, who will play at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, just blocks way from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The summer-collegiate NYCBL plays in June, July and early August.
