Southern Collegiate Baseball League expands to Statesville

The Statesville Owls will begin play next season at Statesville High School.

There will even more baseball next summer in North Carolina, as the Southern Collegiate Baseball League expands to Statesville.

The Statesville Owls will join the summer-collegiate circuit and play at Statesville High School. The high school was also home to several incarnations of South Atlantic League teams when the circuit was known as the Tar Heel League and Western Carolina League: these teams include the Statesville Owls (1939-1940, 1942, 1947-1952, 1960-1963), Statesville Cubs (1945-1946), Statesville Blues (1953), Statesville Sports (1953), Statesville Colts (1964), Statesville Tigers (1966-1967) and Statesville/Monroe Indians (1969).

We haven't paid much attention to the Southern Collegiate Baseball League, which is our bad; most teams play at high schools, but there are some college facilities in the mix: the Spartanburg team plays at a very nice little facility, Russell C. King Field at Wofford
