Martinsville to issue RFP to run Mustangs

Want to run a summer-collegiate team? Martinsville is seeking proposals for the management of the city-owned Coastal Plain League team.

Want to run a summer-collegiate team? Martinsville is seeking proposals for the management of the city-owned Martinsville Mustangs (summer collegiate; Coastal Plain League) team.

The team is definitely returning for the 2010 season, but the city is seeking to cut back on its operating subsidy — some $56,888 in 2009. To that end the city will issue a Request for Proposals through the city's Purchasing Department, looking for a management firm or individual to manage the team. The RFP isn't out yet, so we can't comment on how detailed it will get or if there are any revenue guarantees. If there are no acceptable RFPs, then the city will look at hiring a new general manager.

The Mustangs are on a roll of sort — revenues were $30,000 above budgets for the 2009 season, lessening the city subsidy.
