Work on the new Lake County Fielders (independent; Northern League) ballpark will resume next week, as team president Rich Ehrenreich promises an opening in June 2010.
The statements were made at a banquet last night to promote the team and build community support for the Northern League expansion franchise. The design of the ballpark is still being hashed out, but there's already been a decision to put a permanent concert stage in center field (something we've seen in other ballparks; seems like a good idea if there's room) to accommodate concerts outside of the baseball.
The timeline: work on the site resumes next week, with a formal groundbreaking scheduled for November. Construction should take six to seven months, Ehrenreich says, with the team opening the season with a three-week road trip.
