Janet Marie Smith, who worked on Oriole Park at Camden Yards and then oversaw the recent expansion and renovation of Fenway Park, has returned to Baltimore as vice president of planning and development for the O's.
Smith worked for the last eight years for the Red Sox on Fenway Park renovations, which included the addition of new space under the right-field bleachers, the closing of Yawkey Way on game days and the conversion of exterior spaces into bars and entertainment venues.
It's an interesting move for Smith. Right now it doesn't seem like the Orioles have much in the way of work past the $31 million renovation of Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota for spring training, a smaller project that will offer limited opportunities for creativity. Still, Oriole Park is now more than a decade old and could probably benefit from some TLC as well.
