A groundbreaking for a new ballpark for the Pensacola Pelicans is all set for next week, but the actual design of the ballpark and an opening date are up in the air.
A groundbreaking for a new ballpark for the Pensacola Pelicans (independent; American Association) is all set for next week, but the actual design of the ballpark and an opening date are up in the air.
Scott Davidson from the $40-million Pensacola Maritime Park project (of which the ballpark is a prime component), confirms the date of groundbreaking. He added the actual design of the ballpark is up in the air: originally HKS was working on the project, but the current plan is to interview and work with other architecture firms on the project before setting on one; let the feeding frenzy begin.
Which is why the opening date for the ballpark is up in the air. An opening date by 2012 is guaranteed, but the Pelicans are hoping for a midseason move in 2011.
