The Rockford RiverHawks will begin their Northern League tenure officially today, when the team announces player signings for the 2010 season.
The team will make the announcement at a press conference this afternoon at the Clock Tower Resort. We don't know who will be signed, but we're guessing it's a former RiverHawk who had to leave the Frontier League because of eligibility rules. (Yup. Rich Austin.) The Frontier League differs from the Northern League in many ways; one of the biggest is the emphasis on player development and youth in the Frontier League, while Northern League teams rely more on returning veterans. That inability to retain players past strict age limits reportedly rankled the RiverHawks ownership.
