Memorial Stadium, the former home of the Fort Wayne Wizards (Low Class A: Midwest League), will be dismantled in May, with an auction of reusable equipment due for May 30.
Memorial Stadium opened in 1993 and served as the home of the Wizards until the end of the 2008 season. Today the rebranded Fort Wayne Tincaps play at a new downtown ballpark, Parkview Field.
City officials had sought another use for the ballpark and pitched it to a local college for its home games. In the end, there wasn’t much use for an abandoned ballpark.
The ballpark will stripped of anything salvageable — seats, office equipment, field equipment, etc. The city is hoping to raise $200,000 in the auction.
