The payment represents the basic rent sum plus surcharge amounts paid by the team to the city, per the ballpark lease.
The amount paid is directly correlated to how well the club has done financially since its inception in 2003. With this year’s payment of $1,977,172.24, the total amount given to the city in the team’s six seasons is $12,062,628.33, an average of more than $2 million a year.
"After setting an attendance record last season, we’re delighted to once again share the immense success of the Isotopes with our partners, the City of Albuquerque," Young said. "We’re extremely grateful for the unparalleled support the city has given this franchise since its arrival in 2003 and with our partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers, we’re excited for another great season in 2009 and beyond."
