Despite the bad economy and a slowdown in corporate sponsorships, the management of the Gwinnett Braves (Class AAA; International League) is expecting a strong start to the 2009 season.
Of course, having a new ballpark in what’s considered to a good market — Gwinnett County is an Atlanta suburb — doesn’t hurt. And being the new kid in town is causing some excitemnet among locals.
But the challenge will be sustaining that interest past April and May. In general, what we’ve been hearing from teams is that they’re expecting to be even or up on the attendance front, but down on the sponsorship front. That appears to be the case in Gwinnett County, where naming rights to the new ballpark remain unsold.
Remember: we posted photos of the new ballpark the other day. And don’t forget about our preview of the new facility.
