With the deal of family patriarch Carl Pohlad, many in the baseball business world are waiting to see if anything will change in how the Minnesota Twins do business. But Jim Pohlad, the point man for the three Pohlad sons, says nothing will change.
In reality, Jim Pohlad has been running the team for several years, making the big decisions and approving financial moves as well as shepherding development of Target Field. The death of Carl Pohlad, while symbolic in terms of shifting control to the next generation, shouldn’t change much.
Except for one thing: Jim Pohlad isn’t likely to be as involved in owners’ issues as much as Carl Pohlad was. The elder Pohlad served on several owners’ committees and was known to disperse financial advice — and a loan here and there — to his fellow owner. Jim Pohlad, known as a more retiring type, says he’s not eager to be involved to that level.
