New Mets ballpark: How will it play?

An impromptu batting practice at Citi Field found that the new home of the Mets has the potential to be even more of a pitchers’ park than Shea Stadium.

Statistically, Shea Stadium was a pretty kind ballpark for pitchers, with some spacious outfield dimensions. Though Citi Field is a little more intimate — the left-field foul pole is only 335 feet down the line — it may actually play even more toward the pitchers because of the relatively tall fences. Left center is 379 feet with a 15-foot wall, which goes up to 16 feet in center. A right-center dip is 414 feet from home plate.

Several Mets, including David Wright and Carlos Delgado, have taken batting practice and found how hard it will be to hit a ball out of center field.
