Preservationists seek plan for Civic Stadium

With the Eugene Ems (short season; Northwest League) likely to move to a new ballpark at the University of Oregon after this season, the future of historic Civic Stadium is in some doubt.

Preservationists want to see ownership of the 71-year-old ballpark shifted from the school district to the city or another entity more sympathetic to the facility’s future. The former home of PCL baseball in the city may be part of a larger redevelopment on the site proposed by the local YMCA, which would run the ballpark for youth and high-school play.

All the talk is preliminary, of course. And it’s not a sure thing the Ems are out of there.
