More bad news for beleaguered United League Baseball: Foster Field, the home of the San Angelo Colts, is set to be put up for auction Jan. 6 after the league failed to make a Dec. 1 loan payment.
Foster Field was built for $2 million a decade ago, and San Angelo Banking Center held a $468,000 note on the facility. When the ULB failed to make a $6,000 payment on Dec. 1, the bank foreclosed and took possession.
The foreclosure certainly complicated Harlan Bruha’s efforts to regain control of the Colts and, we assume, his ownership stake in the ballpark. Bruha has sued the ULB to get the Colts back; he retained 49 percent after selling 51 percent to the ULB in 2006.
In addition to the Bruha suit, the ULB has been sued by league founders John Bryant and Byron Pierce; the pair won a temporary restraining order two months ago to prevent dissolution of the league. Depositions on the lawsuit are scheduled for next week, according to sources.
