As if you didn’t know by now, the Tampa Bay Rays advanced to the World Series after defeating the Boston Red Sox, 3-1, last night in the rubber game of the ALCS. Domes get slagged because they force an outdoor game indoors, and all things equal we’d rather see a ballgame outdoors. But the owners of the Rays made the best of the Tropicana Field situation, putting $20 million into renovations that made the place a little more bearable. And Lord knows it’s not the worst dome out there. One interesting thing about the Trop: the ground rules will take a half-hour or so to explain to World Series noobs: the catwalks certainly make the field of play a more interesting place.
