One night only: Northwest Arkansas Thunder Chickens

Northwest Arkansas Thunder ChickensThe Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Class AA; Texas League) will take the field Friday night as the Thunder Chickens, a finalist for team name after a move from Wichita.

It’s “What Might Have Been” night at Arvest Ballpark, as the team dons unis and caps as the Thunder Chickens, one of the finalists for the team nickname when the franchise arrived in Northwest Arkansas. Special Thunder Chickens jerseys will be auctioned off in the concourse during the game. And this treat of a cap will be on sale:

We’re still surprised Thunder Chicken ended up as a finalist, though memorabilia sales for a Thunder Chicken script logo would have made the Rich family even richer. The team was clearly thinking of the fowl-based definition of the term (a thunder chicken is actually a male turkey), but the Urban Dictionary definition of thunder chicken as killer weed would have opened sales to a much broader audience.
