This photo of Bret was posted to Facebook on Sept. 1, as he began the day in the hospital and ended it in the broadcast booth. He wrote: “You want to know what kind of warrior you’re backing in this fight against cancer? Here’s a look…”
Here’s the official statement from the Miners:
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Bret Leuthner, the beloved voice of the Sussex County Miners. Bret, a cherished member of our family since 2016, succumbed to his battle with cancer.
Bret’s voice resonated not just through the stadium but in the hearts of all who heard him. His dedication to the sport and our team was unparalleled. In 2023, he was fittingly honored as the Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, a testament to his exceptional talent and passion for baseball.
Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, Bret was an integral part of our organization. His warm presence, genuine enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to excellence made him a favorite among fans, players, and colleagues alike.
As we mourn this immense loss, we also celebrate the indelible legacy Bret leaves behind. His voice will forever echo in our memories, reminding us of the joy he brought to the game and the lives he touched.
We extend our deepest condolences to Bret’s family, friends, and all who knew him. The Sussex County Miners family will miss him dearly.
