Prospect League Headed to O’Fallon’s CarShield Field

Prospect League logoWith the departure of the Frontier League’s River City Rascals from CarShield Field, the city of O’Fallon (MO) is set to approve a new lease with a summer-collegiate Prospect League team.

In August the Rascals announced that they would cease operations at the end of 2019, making the current Frontier League season their last. The team certainly went out with a bang, winning the 2019 Frontier League championship. The loss of the Rascals puts the independent Frontier League lineup at nine teams, down from 12 in 2018. Before this season the Normal CornBelters and Traverse City Beach Bums departed the circuit as well.

The departure of the Rascals opened the door to a Prospect League team. No surprise: O’Fallon is squarely in the middle of the Prospect League footprint, and the market may be better suited to summer-collegiate ball.

The O’Fallon City Council is set to vote tonight on a proposed lease from O’Fallon Baseball Associates, LLC, a group that apparently includes Richard J. DeStefane, president and CEO of Reliant Care Management, for CarShield Field, totaling $125,000 annually. Also on the agenda: a resolution honoring the Rascals for winning the Frontier League championship.
