Branding for a new Traverse City, MI club in the summer-collegiate Northwoods League will be unveiled next week, with an announcement scheduled for Tuesday, January 29.
One of the teams joining the Northwoods League in 2019, the Traverse City club is taking the place of the Traverse City Beach Bums (independent; Frontier League) at Wuerfel Park. As part of the process of creating its identity, the upcoming club unveiled a slate of six name finalists last month, including Black Pearls, Dogmen, Dune Bears, Pit Spitters, Sasquatch, and Tree Shakers.
An event in Traverse City next Tuesday will mark the unveiling of the chosen identity, along with the team logo. More from the Traverse City Record Eagle:
The unveiling — which is open to the public — will occur at the State Theatre Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m.
The final six names in contention are the Black Pearls, Dogmen, Dune Bears, Pit Spitters, Sasquatch and Tree Shakers.
A free showing of the classic baseball move “The Sandlot” follows the announcement. Free popcorn, Cracker Jack and beverages will be provided. Doors for the event open at 11 a.m.
The Northwoods League’s 2019 season will feature 22 teams, including new additions in Traverse City and the Kokomo Jackrabbits. The Jackrabbits are joining from another summer-collegiate circuit, the Prospect League. The Northwoods League featured 20 teams in 2018.
