With the move to a new ballpark in Madison, AL will come new branding for the Mobile BayBears (Class AA; Southern League), as a name the team contest is underway.
The BayBears are slated to relocate in 2020 to a new ballpark in Madison, with the facility serving as a centerpiece for the 500-acre Town Madison development. When the club does relocate, it will adopt new branding. The process of establishing a new identity is underway, as a name the contest began over the weekend.
Fans have a two-week period, beginning June 9, to submit name suggestions for the new Madison club. A slate of five-to-seven finalists will be announced down the road, and will be up for consideration in a fan voting process. One fan who submits an entry that is ultimately chosen as the team moniker will win several prizes, including season tickets for the first five seasons, a team jersey, and an opportunity to throw out a first pitch during the 2020 campaign.
More details about the contest can be found here. Madison is located in the Huntsville Metropolitan Area, which has not had a professional baseball team of its own since the Huntsville Stars (Class AA; Southern League) played their final full season at Joe Davis Stadium in 2014. Ground was broken for the new Madison ballpark on Saturday, June 9.
