The Gary SouthShore RailCats (independent; American Association) have announced plans for R&R Sports Bar & Grill, a new full-service, year-round restuarant at U.S. Steel Yard.
The RailCats have a signed a 5-year agreement with R&R Gary, LLC to lease the 7,000 sq. ft. restaurant space at 500 W. 5th Ave (Right Field). The new restaurant will be named R & R Sports Bar & Grill and is slated to open in mid-May with an exact date to be released in the coming weeks.
“I am extremely excited to announce that we were able to put a partnership together to a bring NEW Full-Service restaurant to Downtown Gary and have it located here at the Steel Yard! This is a project that we have been working on since last summer, and I can’t wait for the renovations to be completed and for the doors to open!” said RailCats General Manager Brian Lyter, “This is a big day for RailCats Baseball, its fans, the City of Gary, and food lovers alike!”
R&R Sports Bar & Grill is coming to the ballpark from the creators of the extremely successful R&R Caribbean Jerk Chicken located on Main Street in East Chicago. The American-style restaurant will feature some of R&R Caribbean Jerk Chicken’s favorites, but will be a new concept from owners, Dwayne Rancifer and Detrick Ross.

This unique space located in Downtown Gary, at the Steel Yard, is extremely thrilling and we are excited about our partnership with the Gary SouthShore RailCats!” said R&R Sports Bar & Grill owner Dwayne Rancifer. “It is going be a full-service sports bar & grill that will feature enhanced American classics, some of our Caribbean flavor favorites, and local craft beer & cocktails. The interior walls of the restaurant will showcase and pay homage to the rich sports history throughout Northwest Indiana and it will serve as a family-friendly restaurant and the place to be to watch games.”
Dwayne Rancifer and Detrick Ross are not new to the restaurant industry, they are the current owners of R&R Caribbean Jerk and Xhale by R&R in East Chicago, Indiana. R&R Sports Bar & Grill will serve as the second restaurant from Dwayne Rancifer and Detrick Ross with the original location on Main Street in East Chicago. Rancifer and Ross are the proud 2018 recipients of the City of East Chicago Business Economic Award and the 2018 Recipients of the Lake Shore Chamber of Commerce Development Award.
