More details are expected to be unveiled, but the University of Kentucky has released designs and preliminary plans for a new ballpark.
Approval for the ballpark was finalized today, which clears the way for a 2019 opening. The university will construct a brand new facility off of Alumni Drive, with the exact location being between a new football training facility and a soccer training complex.
The ballpark would offer 2,400 fixed seats, with additional berm seating extending the capacity to 4,000. In addition, the new facility will feature modern premium and suite level seating. It will also be built in a way that allows for temporary seating beyond the outfield for major events, with higher-profile games hosting upwards of 6,000 spectators.
Once it opens, the Wildcats will move from Cliff Hagan Stadium, where they have played since 1969. University officials will offer more details about the project during a press conference on Monday.
