Tapping into the widespread appeal of Hamilton, the Potomac Nationals (High A; Carolina League) have announced a tribute to the musical. Scheduled for September 4, this event could mark the emergence of a promotional trend.
The notion of Hamilton inspiring promotions was something we covered last month. Teams are constantly looking to pop culture trends for a variety of offerings–including theme nights–and with its success as both a musical and an album, Hamilton seems ripe for inspiration. The Nationals have apparently found that inspiration, as they will become the “HamilNats” for an evening that include several tributes to Hamilton. Here are some details from the team’s announcement:
For September 4th only, fans can purchase Reserved Section tickets for just $10, either by mentioning “Hamilton” at the Potomac Nationals Ticket Office or groups of 20 or more may purchase tickets in advance with Group Sales Executive/Community Relations Manager, Ashlee Towns at 703-590-2311 ext. 313. The “HamilNats” will also be offering a $10 picnic add-on to any ticket, featuring all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, & side items.
Throughout the night, the Pfitzner Stadium crowd will witness to various Burr vs. Hamilton contests, as “Hamilton” the musical highlights the events leading up the infamous Burr vs. Hamilton matchup in 1804. The festivities at the ballpark will conclude with a reenactment of the duel.
In honor of one of the more notorious events in American history, the “HamilNats” will serve Samuel Adams kegs throughout the ballpark, run Founding Father trivia in the Picnic Patio during the game, and play music from the show during post-game fireworks.
There will also be in-game “Rap Battles” in which fans can sign up for in advance of the game. In addition, the “HamilNats” will promote different ticket and food deals with the social media hashtags #HamilNats and #HamilDeals and the P-Nats encourage fans to participate in the night’s festivities using the same hashtags on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Sunday, September 4th is also the final Sunday home game of the season, which means that the P-Nats will be auctioning off their 2016 Commemorative Military Appreciation camouflage jerseys throughout the game. The winners will be able to take home an autographed, game-worn jersey, with proceeds to benefit HAND, the Heroes Alliance Foundation/Heroes Alliance Network for the Dutiful.
First pitch against the Pelicans on 9/4 is scheduled for 6:05pm, while gates will open for the “Hamilton” celebration at 5:00pm.
