There is some personnel news to report out of Aberdeen, where the Aberdeen IronBirds (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) have named Matt Slatus as their new general manager. Slatus will oversee the front office and game day operations, lead all ticket sales efforts and continue to engage the local Harford County community.
“I am excited to be a part of the IronBirds team and its dedicated staff that continues to set the standard of excellence in fun, family-friendly entertainment,” said Slatus. “With such a supportive community and proud fan base, there is no limit to what we can achieve together, both on and off the field.”
As General Manager, Slatus will manage the daily business operations of the team and facility at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Additionally, he will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong and engaging relationship with the local community, while creating additional revenue streams that support the organization.
“Matt’s experience, love for the game and passion to build a strong, community-based, family destination is more than we could ask for in a General Manager. We are proud to have him apart of our team and look forward to an exciting future of Aberdeen IronBirds baseball,” added Glenn Valis, Senior Vice President, Ripken Baseball.
Slatus previously served as Director of Marketing & Partnerships for Camelback Ranch in Arizona, overseeing brand marketing, corporate partnerships, broadcasting and production, and community and public relations for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox spring training facility. Prior to his time with Camelback Ranch, Slatus managed corporate sales and sponsorships at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona, the spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.
With more than ten years of experience working with professional sports organizations, Slatus has also spent time in the industry with the Brooklyn Cyclones, Staten Island Yankees, Madison Square Garden Sports and Major League Baseball. Slatus received his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from New York University, before earning his Master’s degree at Ohio University.
