Sporting Painted Cleats, Skeeters Break Attendance Record

_96U9830

There is another attendance record to note from the Fourth of July, as the Sugar Land Skeeters (independent; Atlantic League) shattered their previous high mark.

A total of 8,606 fans entered the gates of Constellation Field on Monday, seeing the Skeeters defeat the New Britain Bees by a final of 2-1. The previous attendance record of 8,597 was set on September 17, 2012.

While notable in its own right, the attendance was not the only thing that stood out. To benefit various military charities, 15 Skeeters took the field in cleats that were painted in a patriotic style. (See the above photo.)

Of those 15 pairs, seven were auctioned off after Monday’s game, but fans will have another chance to bid on these items. The Skeeters will be placing eight pairs of cleats on Ebay this week.
