IronPigs to Become Cheesesteaks

Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Class AAA; International League) will become the Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks—for one night.

As part of Salute to Philadelphia Night on June 10, the IronPigs will switch over to the Cheesesteak identity, which is complete with a bold logo and uniform scheme. The black jerseys will say Steaks across the front in Cheese Wiz yellow, with the appearance of dripping cheese adding to the look. There is also a cheesesteak sandwich logo on the sleeve patch.

To complete the uniform, the IronPigs are asking fans to vote on the cap. There are two hat different designs from which to choose, one that features a cheesesteak “wit” onions and one “witout” onions. Based on their favorite way to eat a cheesesteak sandwich, fans log onto www.LVcheesesteaks.com and declare their loyalty to “Team Wit” or “Team Witout.”

Voting on the cap will also be conducted through the Uber app. To vote on Uber, enter either the “TeamWit” or the “TeamWitOut” code in the promotions tab. Any selection made in Uber will count towards a drawing that features nine prizes, including 10 club level tickets for Salute to Philadelphia Night.

“Today, we’ve officially raised the Steaks,” exclaimed IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “As a Phillies affiliate, we can’t wait to celebrate all things Philadelphia, including the iconic cheesesteak on ‘Salute to Philadelphia Night.'”

Salute to Philadelphia Night will be a busy promotion, going beyond the Cheesesteaks uniforms. The Phillie Phanatic will be on hand for appearances during the game, while the night will be capped with a post-game firework show. A promotional tribute to Philadelphia is a natural choice, given that the IronPigs have been a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate since their inaugural season in 2008. Of course, the connection between Philadelphia and Allentown is about much more than baseball, as Allentown is where the Liberty Bell was hidden in 1777 so that it would not be seized and melted down for munitions by the British Army.

In advance of Salute to Philadelphia Night, fans can get their hands on Chessesteaks merchandise. The IronPigs have made Cheesesteak apparel available online (see the link above) as well as at the team store at Coca-Cola Park.
