With the college baseball season starting in weeks, time to check in on the progress of Monongalia County Ballpark, set to host West Virginia University and short season A ball this season.
The shot above was taken today. Despite the snow, work continues on ballpark construction, per WVU:
Projects that are going on this week and next week include painting in the main concourse, drywall work in the press box, installing doorframes, working on the exterior coating of the press box and working on the shell of the office spaces on the second floor of the clubhouse.
The field lighting was completed during the middle of December and crews continue to work on the playing field subsurface in hopes to start drainage work. It is estimated that the turf is still two to three weeks away from being laid.
Additionally, seats will begin to be installed next week.
The rendering above shows what the new ballpark will look like.
As we noted, the new ballpark is expected to host WVU baseball this season. The West Virginia Black Bears (short season A; NY-Penn League) will launch this season there as well.
