Modesto, Rockies extend player development contract

Modesto NutsOur first post-Sept. 11 PDC: The Modesto Nuts (High Class A; California League) and the Colorado Rockies extended their player development contract through the 2016 season.

The two-year extension will ensure the partnership continues for twelve consecutive seasons, extending the second longest affiliation in Modesto professional baseball history.

“We’ve enjoyed ten great seasons as a Colorado Rockies affiliate and we are excited to continue our great partnership,” said Modesto Nuts General Manager Tyler Richardson. “Our fans have enjoyed seeing former Modesto Nuts players excel at the Major League level.”

Since the affiliation began in 2005, over 60 former Modesto Nuts players, including All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado have played in the Major Leagues. The Modesto Nuts have made the playoffs in 8 of the 10 years as a Rockies affiliate, winning the Northern Division title in 2012.

The Rockies are excited to once again extend our long and rewarding relationship with the Modesto Nuts,” said Colorado Rockies Director of Player Development Jeff Bridich. “We look forward to future success and are thrilled that our players will continue to develop their skills at John Thurman Field in the California League.”
