Metrodome roof deflated with no problems

Metrodome Roof

The deflating of the Metrodome roof happened this morning with no issues, and the demolition of the former Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Golden Gophers ballpark will continue this week.

You can see a time-lapse version of the roof-deflation video, which condenses a 35-minute process down to two minutes:

The process was pretty low-tech: the electricity to the Metrodome was cut off, and the doors were opened, leading to a loss of air pressure keeping up the roof. After 35 minutes, the process was done. A contractor is taking down the Metrodome roof and selling the resulting cloth as tarps.

The Metrodome served as home of the Minnesota Twins from 1982-2009, the Minnesota Golden Gopher baseball team from 1985-2013, the Minnesota Vikings from 1982-2013 and the Minnesota Timberwolves from 1989–1990. It is the only venue to host an MLB All-Star Game, a World Series, a Super Bowl and an NCAA men’s basketball Final Four.
