A fashion note for tonight: the Birmingham Barons (Class AA; Southern League) unveiled two new caps for the 2014 season.
Joining the traditional black Barons cap emblazoned with the classic Old English B logo will be a new alternate in-game cap and New Era’s new Diamond Era batting practice cap.
The new alternate cap will put a fresh spin on team’s primary headwear. The two-toned cap will feature the team’s primary color scheme: a white Old English B logo outlined in black against a red crown and a black bill. The cap will be worn both at home and on the road during all day games throughout the 2014 season, marking the first time the franchise has incorporated an alternate hat into their uniform scheme.
The new mesh batting practice cap features a bold new take on the iconic ‘B’ logo. For the first time, the Script B will be the primary logo for an on-field Barons cap. The script is identical to the primary font on the front of Barons home uniform. The design features a two-toned color scheme, incorporating a black bill and back panel with a white crown. The team’s official on-field batting practice cap by New Era has been completely redesigned for 2014 and features a state-of-the-art performance diamond texture fabric that is lightweight, breathable, features 50+ UV protection and wicks away sweat thanks to an innovative performance sweatband. Known as New Era’s Diamond Era collection, the cap debuted with all 30 major league team’s last year and was met with rave reviews.
“Today’s release of our two new on-field caps strengthens one of the iconic brands in Minor League Baseball,” said Barons GM Jonathan Nelson. “The designs offer a nod to our illustrious history while looking ahead to a bright future at Regions Field. We believe these uniform additions will quickly become fan-favorites as we head into the 2014 season,” he added.
Accompanying the redesigned batting practice hats will be a new batting practice top. The black mesh top will feature the script Barons logo in white with a red outline.
The new caps will go on-sale to the public on Saturday, March 8th at the Barons Sports Depot at Regions Field.
