It won’t get as much attention from the general baseball media, but this week sees an important event in Major League Baseball: the 2013 MLB Diversity Business Summit in Houston.
This year’s event, co-hosted by the Houston Astros, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston and the George R. Brown Convention Center on June 18-19.
Staff and front office personnel from the Minor League Baseball office and six MiLB clubs will join executives from Major League Baseball’s Central Office, all 30 MLB Clubs, MLB Network and MLB Advanced Media for the event.
According to MLB, this “premier sports employment and supplier diversity trade fair” gives job seekers and entrepreneurs the unique opportunity to meet with Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball clubs, as well as with sponsorship partners. Minor League Baseball clubs participating in this year’s event are the Corpus Christi Hooks, High Desert Mavericks, Iowa Cubs, Oklahoma City RedHawks, Omaha Storm Chasers and Quad Cities River Bandits.
he 2013 MLB Diversity Business Summit includes speakers from baseball and business including, Allan H. (Bud) Selig, Commissioner of Major League Baseball; Pat O’Conner, President & CEO of Minor League Baseball; and Jim Crane, Owner and Chairman of the Houston Astros, among others. A reception at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, followed by a Milwaukee Brewers vs. Houston Astros game on June 19 also highlight the summit’s schedule of events.
“Minor League Baseball and our clubs are proud to once again take part in this historic business event,” said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O’Conner. “As a member of Commissioner Selig’s On-Field Diversity Task Force and the MLB Diversity Oversight Committee, as well as through the Minor League Baseball Diversity Initiative, I am fully committed to seeing that diversity within all levels of baseball is embraced and fostered. This summit certainly does that.”
