Though there’s no major ballpark music tour this summer, one of the biggest musical acts of the year will hit a select number of facilities this summer when Bob Dylan, Wilco and My Morning Jacket go on tour.
The tour, combining musical legends Dylan and Thompson with one of the nation’s top concert draws in Wilco, begins June 26 and runs through the beginning of August. Four ballparks are currently tour stops: AutoZone Park, home of the Memphis Redbiirds (Class AAA; International League), on June 2; Midway Stadium, home of the St. Paul Saints (independent; American Association) on June 10; Chiefs Stadium, home of the Peoria Chiefs (Low Class A; Midwest League), on June 11, and the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, home of the Bridgeport Bluefish (independent; Atlantic League), on June 19.
Dylan is a major ballpark draw and has done ballpark tours the past several years, usually with other popular musicians on the bill (John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson). Wilco, of course, is a major draw focusing on concert halls and arenas, although the band did make an appearance at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark last summer. Richard Thompson is touring with his Electric Trio and will appear at some of the concerts (including the Midway Stadium stop); add in My Morning Jacket and you have a potent lineup for what is being called the AmericaramA Festival of Music tour.
There are other rmajor concerts at ballparks this summer: Kenny Chesney has scheduled three, hitting Target Field, Angel Stadium and Miller Park.
Tickets go on sale Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m., with the presale starting Wednesday morning, April 24.
