Yes, we know this is an unnecessary formality, but we’re compelled to report it anyway: the San Diego Padres and the new ownership of the Tucson Padres (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) extended their player-development contract (PDC) through 2014.
It wasn’t technically necessary, but it happened anyway: the extension period occurred under the Jeff Moorad ownership of the T-Padres and occurred anyway, we’re told, but this gives the new owners of the T-Padres — MountainStar Sports, who plans on bring the T-Padres to El Paso in 2014 — a chance to exercise some power after paying $20.5 million for the franchise.
“We look forward to a great partnership with the San Diego Padres ownership, including Ron Fowler and the O’Malley and Seidler families. An affiliation with the San Diego Padres speaks volumes to the quality of play we will see in El Paso in 2014,” said Josh Hunt, a member of MountainStar Sports Group, along with his father Woody Hunt and Paul and Alejandra Foster. “For the first time, El Paso families will be able to watch players just one step from the Major Leagues, in a new state-of-the-art downtown ballpark right in our home town.”
