It’s all sunny in Pittsfield for summer-collegiate ball

Pittsfield SunsWe may have the perfect tenant for historic Wahconah Park, as the Pittsfield Suns (summer collegiate; Futures League) and the Goldklang Group wrap up a successful debut season.

Baseball has been a hard sell in Pittsfield in recent years; independent and summer-collegiate teams all failed over the last decade. Enter the Goldklang Group, as Jeff Goldklang and Tyler Tumminia worked their magic to bring a professional approach to the proceedings, adding things like good promotions and flashy between-innings entertainment. Though the team probably only broke even this season thanks to start-up costs, that’s better than anticipated, as the Suns drew well over the budgeted 800 fans a game.

So it’s a no-brainer the team will be back next season and 2014, under the terms of the current lease. The two sides are talking about an extension, reports the Berkshire Eagle
