Pomeranz joining Padres broadcast team

Mike PomeranzFormer Minnesota Twins farmhand and Twin Cities news anchor Mike Pomeranz is joining the San Diego Padres broadcast team, according to KARE 11 officials.

Pomeranz has been a news anchor at KARE 11, the Minneapolis-St. Paul NBC affiliate, for the past six years, moonlighting as a studio host and reporter for Twins broadcasts on Fox Sports North. He was a southpaw in the Twins organization before shoulder troubles ended his career. Really, we’re running this story because it allows us to dig through our archives and share with you Pomeranz’s 1989 Kenosha Twins (Low Class A; Midwest League) baseball card.

“It’s been great to have Mike on the KARE 11 team and help set the stage for him to fulfill his dream,” said KARE-11 President/GM John Remes. “We wish him and his family the very best.”

Pomeranz’s last day at KARE 11 will be March 23, 2012.

No word on his specific duties for the Padres; the team has not announced his role with the broadcast team.
